Counselling Services
The counsellors at The Support Hub are registered under the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Appointments are recommended for counselling, however, walk-ins and immediate virtual appointments are accepted if staff are available at that time.
What We Provided
We truly understand the plethora of barriers a student can face during their years at college which can certainly hinder their ability to excel as a student. We are therefore, passionate about providing all students with an inclusive, anti-oppressive, and positive environment. We are attentive to equality, equity, and diversity within the campus community and beyond. The Support Hub is committed to offering food security, referrals, educational workshops, information, counselling services, social events, and more.
We provide both in-person and virtual empathic counselling in many areas which may impact students’ lives. Some of these areas include but are not limited to; Anxiety and depression, past or present abuse, poverty, homelessness, family issues, food poverty, addictions, healthy and unhealthy relationships, goal setting, mental health issues, safety planning, and so forth.
Appointments are recommended for counselling; however, walk-ins are accepted if staff are available at that time.
What We Stand For
We promote consent on campus and envisions a campus where all can be treated with respect. Students can access free condoms from any of our locations on campus. The creation of our quiet room and breastfeeding space was birthed when we realised that sometimes students may need a non-judgemental space to process their thoughts and emotions during times of distress. The quiet room is intended for students to use when a quiet and peaceful environment is needed or for privacy to breastfeed. Kindly note, that this space is not a designated study space or a hang out spot.
All For Free?
There are no fees attached to our services and we encourage students to not suffer in silence. Please visit the Support Hub if you are ever in need of support during your time at Durham College. We are here for YOU!
