Candidates for the Director from the Faculty of Health Sciences
JEFF JOSEPH ARINAITWE
My name is Jeff Joseph Arinaitwe, and I am a Practical Nursing student in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Durham College. I am interested in serving as the Faculty of Health Sciences Director on the Durham College Student Association Board of Directors because I am passionate about student advocacy, leadership, and creating a positive academic environment for all students.
As a nursing student, I understand the challenges students face academically, financially, and personally while balancing demanding programs and placements. I believe every student deserves to have their voice heard and represented fairly. I am committed to listening to student concerns, communicating effectively with faculty administration, and helping improve the student experience within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
My experiences working with diverse communities, collaborating with classmates, and supporting peers have strengthened my communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. I am motivated to contribute positively to the DCSA by participating actively in meetings, supporting student initiatives, and helping ensure transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in decision-making.
If elected, I will work hard to represent students professionally, advocate for their needs, and help strengthen the connection between students, faculty, and the DCSA.
Thank you for your consideration.

HAFSA FATHIMA
My name is Hafsa, and I am running to be a Student Representative on the Faculty of Health Sciences Board of Directors. I am currently a student in the Personal Support Worker program, and after I graduate, I plan to continue my education through the PSW‑to‑RN bridging pathway at Durham College. My goal is to build a long‑term career in nursing, and I want to help shape a learning environment that supports every student on their own path in healthcare.
Studying in the PSW program has shown me how important it is for students to feel heard, supported, and understood. Many of us balance school, work, family, and personal challenges while trying to build a future in healthcare. I know what it feels like to navigate placements, manage heavy workloads, and try to stay motivated. These experiences are why I want to represent our student community. I want to make sure our concerns are brought forward with honesty and respect.
If I am chosen for this role, I will focus on improving communication between students and faculty, making it easier for students to share feedback about classes, placements, and academic support. I will also advocate for more resources that help students succeed — including mental‑health support, tutoring, and clearer guidance for those who want to continue into programs like Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing.
My background in healthcare management has taught me how systems work, but my experience as a PSW student has taught me why student voices matter. I believe in teamwork, fairness, and creating a positive environment where everyone feels included.
I would be honoured to represent the needs of all Health Sciences students. Thank you for considering my candidacy.
