Keiran Popela

I am Keiran Popela from Barrie Ontario, and I have been attending Durham College for two years now in the Business Administration – Finance Program. I have also been a part of the Lords Men’s Rugby Team for two years. Before coming to Durham College, I attended Brock University studying Critical Criminology.

Throughout my time at both institutions, I have aimed to be a positive member and contributor within the student community. This comes from attending sporting events, community social events, and being a member of groups and clubs. All of these experiences have allowed me to develop connections, and strive to be a member of the community that people have trust in. This can be broken down into a member of the community that someone can go to. Together we can help build or develop a place where students feel welcomed, appreciated, and have a sense of belonging.

During my time at Durham College, I have seen a passionate, supportive, and diverse community, that continues to show up for one another to make sure that every individual can be the best individual they wish themselves to be. Through your vote I hope to expand on the idea of community building, through event promotion. Such as expansion in student life on campus, the promotion of students rallying behind their peers in athletics, the arts, and other combined interests of students. Finally through a focus towards building and enhancing community and culture I aim to make Durham College, not just a place for education, but somewhere students can reach their full potential and be who they want to be, and create lasting memories for years to come.

Thank You

Keiran Popela

Carolyn Turner

I’m Carolyn Turner, a Durham College paralegal student and experienced leader in highly regulated, service‑driven environments, and I’m asking for your vote as Executive Chair of the Durham College Student Association (DCSA).

I bring over 25 years of professional experience, including serving as Managing Director of a regional airport, where I reported directly to its Board of Directors. I have held two separate board roles and have experience negotiating organizational benefits. This work sharpened my understanding of governance, fair decision‑making, and the achievement of practical outcomes for the people affected by those decisions. My background in aviation, contract management, and customer service means I am used to interpreting complex rules, ensuring transparent processes, and advocating for individuals within large systems. That experience has prepared me to serve as Executive Chair, a role that oversees DCSA’s strategic, financial, and legal responsibilities while keeping students at the centre of every decision.

As a mature student, I understand what it’s like to juggle school, work, and life responsibilities, and I know that “student life” looks different for everyone. If elected, my priorities will be to:

• Strengthen transparency and communication, so students clearly understand where their fees go and how decisions are made.
• Champion mental‑health, financial, and academic supports that reflect the needs of both new and returning/mature students.
• Build more accessible, inclusive opportunities for involvement—on campus and online—so every student feels represented and heard.

I will bring a calm, professional, and solution‑focused approach to Board leadership, grounded in fairness, accountability, and respect for diverse student voices. I would be honoured to earn your trust and your vote for Executive Chair.
